Ceramic design

There doesn’t seem to be a huge degree of innovation in ceramic design in Israel. Both in form and function and in design. I like the idea of Silk Screen printing on Ceramics and also digital printing on Ceramics. There are only a couple of people in Israel who do this, and it is actually a very hard thing to do. My newspaper vase is one of my most successful products. Probably because the concept is widely understood, it is unusual, as well as having that wow factor, it is also beautifully executed. The idea is that flowers used to be given in newspaper, and therefore the vase has a real newspaper design from 1947 years printed on it. It is also an unusual shape which makes it curious and unexpected. I also created a bowl with letters around it, which I felt was needed as well as in addition I have printed pomegranates on bowls for this last Pesach. I digitally printed a humorous scene on a plate which went very well.

A ceramics, designer and producer that I do very much admire is Yahara Kachlon, she produces serving ware and snd dinnerware of a very light weight. The products are joy to use and look great on a table. Everything is in cream. There is no decoration. She adhere to her lime and there is a consistency. She is a one-woman show, and produces everything in her studio on a Moshe in the south. I met Yaara at a tradeshow in Frankfurt many years ago, and we have remained admirer of each other for all these years. I love her work, her personality comes through in everything that she does, she is straight and clear without fuss a true Designer treasure. c
