Description
Time is a key element in Judaism. The first commandment given to the Jewish people was that to sanctify time, by determining and applying the Jewish calendar, and shabbat. We count time both by the monthly cycle of the moon and the seasonal cycle of the sun. For calendar purposes, the Jewish day begins at nightfall but if we look at the structure of the prayers worship of the day starts in the morning, not the night before. Years, too, usually have one fixed beginning in other cultures – the “New Year”. In Judaism there are Four New Years. The New Year for Trees, New Year for Kings. the religious - Calendar New Year and New Year for Animals and tithing. (Edited from Rabbi Sacks)
